Once a scrapped project, the New Balance 2002 has become one of the company’s most exciting silhouettes in the matter of two years.
In 2010, New Balance released the 2002R, a running shoe that was designed to provide stability and support for runners. The 2002R featured a dual-density foam midsole that provided cushioning and support, and a N-Durance outsole that provided durability. The 2002R was a popular choice for runners looking for a stability shoe, and it was also one of the first New Balance shoes to be available in a wide range of widths.
In addition to the high-quality materials, the sneaker also features a performance-informed design. The grey color is also intended to be New Balance-friendly. Tried-and-proven tooling from the 860v2 also dons a heritage-appropriate grey and off-white color combination. The nylon stow pocket featured atop the laces, however, differentiate the newly-surfaced pair from the “dad shoes” the New England institution has long-been synonymous with. The small pull tab at the spine complements the included component’s touch of utilitarianism. The company has not disclosed whether they have plans to release an expansive outdoors-inspired collection; however, the latest grey New Balance 2002 features a functional attachment on the tongue. “New Balance Running” branding appears on the top of the tongue and sock-liners.
